Green Guinness

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today’s contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: Green Guinness

The following takes place Saturday, March 21st. Sara forgot to get beer on her way home on St. Patricks Day, so Frank decided they would ‘be Irish’ on Saturday as well.

There she is! Finally!” Frank exclaims, as Sara walks in.

Did you get the goods?”

I certainly did. The question becomes..can you drink them all?” Sara places a case of Guinness on the counter. Ann follows from the hallway, placing a second case on the counter.

Billy breaks out into a huge grin. “48 Guinnesses..guinnies? no.. Beers! I think we can do this. That’s what…like eight each?”

More like 12 each, since Ann and Sara don’t like Guinness. No way I’m drinking 12.”

Actually, since I’ve become overly addicted to coffee, Guinness has grown on me. Can we make it green though?”

Yeah!”

Guinness is black..No way you can dye it.”

They dye chocolate red for red velvet cakes, why not beer?”

Just pump some green food coloring in there. I’m sure it’ll dye the bubbles at least.”

Tabitha grabs a bottle, opens it, and adds some green food coloring. She then pours it out into a glass.

greenguinness

Wow..that actually looks kind of cool. Happy St. Patricks Day!” Tabitha takes a big gulp.

Everyone mixes up their own Green Guinness, even Ann has one, and the night degenerates from there.

Happy St. Patricks Day!

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today’s contributors are: Sara, Frank

Subject: Happy Green!

Sara is drinking coffee and browsing Google News in the morning before getting ready for work, Frank is brewing a second pot of coffee.

You’re up early Frank. You going to the Parade?”

Nah. Too crowded. I just ended up in bed early, so I’m up early. Going to make some Irish coffee..you want any?”

No, I’m good..probably should get to work anyway.” Sara looks at her watch. “Got a couple of minutes..maybe a travel mug of Irish coffee..”

Or a flask? You’ll fit right in with the homeless guys on the train!”

A flask of Irish Coffee? I don’t think they make flasks insulated for heat.”

Oh. True.” Frank says, pushing ‘on’ on the coffee pot.

I’ll pick up some Guinness on the way home. We can drink them tonight.”

Green eggs! That’s perfect! Want some?” Frank says, squeezing drops of green food coloring onto his eggs.

Gross! I don’t think that’s what they mean by green eggs..”

greeneggs

I’m just going to get a green bagel on the way. I’ll trust my food dyes to the professionals.”

You’re missing out..”

Eggs aren’t really my thing anyway. Take a picture though, I’m sure Billy will find it appetizing.”

Billy finds everything appetizing.” Frank says, as he pours Irish Cream into his coffee.

irishcoffee

Exactly.”

6th Floor Super Bowl Snacks

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today’s contributors are: Tabitha, Billy and Scott.

Subject: 6th Floor’s Snack Post

I want to talk about something to you that’s very important to me.” Billy says solemnly, looking at Scott and Tabitha sitting on the couch across from him.

What kind of snacks are we having on Saturday? And what type of food for dinner?”

Scott snickers.

Ann and I are going shopping tomorrow. We’ll get a bunch of chips and frozen appetizers and the like.”

Get some of those little, wrapped hot dog things.”

Pigs in a blanket?”

Yes! Those!”

I saw this delicious recipe for Guinness brownies. We should make those!”

Beer brownies?” Tabitha makes a face. “That’s on you.”

Well, first we’ll need some Guinness.”

That’s a given.”

One for the brownies, one to drink while you make the brownies?”

Yeah! I like the way you think Tabitha.”

I’m just hoping for good commercials anyway. Like last year.”

No changing the topic. Should we order food on Sunday?”

You know food always takes a decade to get here on Super Bowl Sunday.”

We could order early.”

Order at the start of the second inning..”

Quarter.”

Whatever. And then it should be ready for half time right? Who’s performing this year?”

Springsteen.”

Springsteen? Geeze, they’re sure playing it safe these days.”

Springsteen’s good though..”

He is..but it’s still safe. Just don’t think that’s the right reason to pick a band.”

Any other snack requests?”

No, I trust your judgment.”

You do?”

No. But I trust you’ll shop early and I’ll be able to bitch about your choices early enough to get more stuff.”

Tabitha rolls her eyes.

St. Patricks Day

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today’s contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Okay everybody! I made us six Irish Car Bombs!”

Oh joy, chugging beer. What a pleasure.”

No sarcasm around the Guinness!”

Only envy right? Because we’d be green with envy?”

Frank groans. “Lame Sara.”

We should toast to something.” Billy says, raising his glass.

Irish Whores?”

Leprechauns.”

Can’t you chip a tooth doing these things? Don’t we have plastic shot glasses?” Tabitha complains, as Scott hands Tabitha her shot and drink.

Here’s to Kermit, Green Jello, and all things that wish they were as green as them.”

That works. Bombs away!”

They chug.

March

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today’s contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: March

It’s that time of month again!”

Oh no! She’s going to ask us about March! Run!”

Scott and Frank leap up and start dashing towards the bedrooms, but Ann blocks their way.

Tough. It won’t hurt that much, I promise.”

That’s what the doctor always says too, before he comes at me with a giant needle!”

At least he puts a Mickey Mouse band-aid on your boo-boo.”

Yeah, that’s true.” Frank sits back down and resumes his game with Sara.

Hey, I’m losing 34-22? You didn’t pause it?!”

Oh, you wanted it to pause it? My mistake.” Sara grins.

You’ll regret that! Prepare for an amazing comeback.”

My birthday’s in March, so that’s cool. This year’s the big Two Seven.”

The big Two Seven? What’s so great about 27?”

Well, It’s prime for one thing.” Sara calls over from the couch.”

No it’s not…nine and three..?”

Oops. Nevermind. So what is so great about 27 then Scott?”

I just wanted to say the big Two Seven. Nothing special.”

I know it’s a little cliché going with a food answers, but I like cornbeef and cabbage as well as Irish soda bread.”

Speaking of that, did you see that Guinness is looking to make St. Patrick’s Day an official holiday?”

Not a bad idea. I love Guinness.”

They got a petition I guess? I’d sign that.”

915,913 signatures to go apparently. That’s a lot in only two weeks. I don’t even like Guinness but I think it’s a good idea.”

They even have a commercial, where they’re interviewing what I guess is a pilgrim, asking him if he’s jealous about the idea.”

On that avenue of thought, I’m going to say green beer is my favorite thing about March.”

Green beer? You know it’s just food coloring right? I could make you some green beer right now.”

Wouldn’t taste the same if it’s not the 17th. Your turn Ann, I know how you like to weasel out of your own questions.”

That’s easy, my favorite thing about this March is that Wednesday marks one whole year of writing the blog. I’m proud of myself.”

A bit modest are we? I’m going to say Easter. It’s neat that it’s early this year. I Looove dying Easter Eggs.”

Yeah, that should be fun. Maybe we should all stick around here this year instead of going home to our families. Last but not least, Sara. No baseball reasons, you always find a way to make it about baseball.”

But.. But..”

No! And I might not let you use it in April either!”

Speaking of days that should be holidays, Opening Day should really be a national holiday so we can all watch our national pasttime.”

I’m with you there. Look on the bright side, I’m my own boss and you are unemployed. We can both watch it at leisure!”

I knew there was a benefit to being home all day! If I can’t have baseball, I’ll go with the ‘In like a lion, out like a lamb’ cliché. I look forward to the warm weather again.”

See, and no one died. If you guys start thinking about your April answers, maybe you won’t find it so grueling.”

And Frank, you suck. Did you just lose to Sara by 27 points?”

Best two out of three?”

Drinking Away Today

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today’s contributors are: Ann, Sara, Frank

Subject: Let’s grab a Beer…or three

The door slams shut and Ann tosses her bag on the counter and flops onto the couch. “Ugh!”

“Tough day?”

“The worst. They had me bartending this afternoon, and of course there were two completely trashed businessmen. I guess they’d had a rough day too, and they decided tequila shots on their lunch hour would be a good idea.”

“Drunk businessmen. Doesn’t really sound that bad.”

“It wasn’t at first, but then they started getting demanding and arguing loudly with each other. Luckily it was only an hour, but there were other things too.”

“Want to grab a drink and unwind? We don’t have to go to Catalina’s for it, I promise.”

“A drink actually sounds great. You going to come too Frank?”

Frank puts his laptop down. “Let’s see, come drinking or play Snood all night. Whiskey wins in a landslide!”

“Great. Lets go before I remember how worn out I am.”

Can we have three Guinness’ please?”

Sara stares at Frank. “Make that two Guinness’ and a Sam Adams Summer.”

“One Guinness, and I’ll have vanilla vodka and coke.”

The bartender winks at Frank. “Never presume to know what a woman wants to drink.”

“You would think you’d have learned we don’t like Guinness by now.”

“Nothing remedies a tough day like a Guinness.”

“Sounds like I’m not the only one who has had a bad day. Cards not being nice to you?”

“Yeah. That’s basically it. It’s been a rough time.”

“You could always subsidize your poker with a real job.”

“I’m having a little bad luck, I’m not desperate.”

“What’s desperate? Bud Light?” Ann asks, as the bartender brings over the drinks.

“Nah. Desperate is probably water.”

“Yeah. I guess that would be desperate. Cheers! To a better tomorrow!”

“You make it sound like we’re on a noble quest or something.”

“Aren’t we? I think drinking away today is a noble quest.”

“Yeah. It’s certainly not not-noble.”

“Not not-noble? You’re confusing me. Too many negatives.”

“Well, it’s a very negative day isn’t it?”

“True.”

“I’m sure we’re not the only people in here having a bad day. It’s early enough that I think most of these people are trying to forget the day.”

“That’s a good point. Most of the time the celebrating happens a little later.”

“And cheerier. Everyone here looks depressed.”

“Us included.”

“Well, booze is a depressant.”

“And misery loves company.”

“Which means, more beer! Keep them coming!” Frank says, putting his drained glass on the bar.
