Old Farmer Scott

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today’s contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: 6th Floor Blog Almanac

It’s cold again.” Sara notes, as Sara, Ann, Tabitha and Frank return from a walk outside.  Billy and Scott are playing NHL 10 on the PS3, and Frank goes to shower.

From Pictures

Not as cold as last week.  Maybe we’ll have a little more warm weather before winter sets in..”  Tabitha muses.

After the rain passes, it’s supposed to be semi-nice again actually.” Billy says.

Good being relative to if you like rain or not.”  Ann says.

“Doesn’t mean it’ll stay nice.    I’m predicting a harsh, cold winter.”  Scott says.

You are?  I’ve always wondered who the ‘Old Farmer’ is with the almanac.  It’s you Scott!” Ann exclaims.

Actually, the Old Farmer’s Almanac does predict an above average snowfall this year.  Probably some for Thanksgiving as well.”  Billy says.

I’m thinking we get a white Christmas this year.” Sara predicts.

That would be nice.” Ann says.

“However, for as cold as the winter will be, summer will come early.  It’ll be blistering hot at times.”  Scott predicts.

Would you like to wager on these predictions, oh farmer Scott?” Billy asks.

“Sure.  Let’s say $50.  Payable next summer.”  Scott says.  “Sara can be judge.”

Judge?  This predictions are rather arbitrary.  You said it’s going to be a harsh, cold winter, and that summer will come early with blistering days.  Fine.  I’ll judge it, but we’re going by my standards.” Sara says.

So what do we classify as harsh, cold winter?  At least three days where the temperature drops near 0?” Ann asks.

Yes.  And it has to snow well, at least three times.  And by well I mean I have to still be able to make a snowball two days later.” Sara says.

And not out of the black snow that gets piles on the curbs.”  Ann clarifies.

Okay. For summer.  Blistering heat.  Those are the days that you feel like you’re going to melt on the subway platform.  When people are applying sunscreen to go out for lunch, when you see pedestrians with umbrellas to block the sun.”  Sara explains.

He said early as well.  I classify early as meaning I’ll have a craving for a frosty root beer float before April Fools Day.”  Ann says.

Excellent.  What do you say guys?  Those terms acceptable?” Sara asks.

“Perfect.”  Scott says, as he and Billy shake on it.

Frank’s Rant

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today’s contributors are: Ann, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: Frank’s Rant

Stupid weather! Why has it been cold, windy or rainy all week? Where’s spring and summer? Baseball has started. It’s supposed to be warm. I’m tired of jackets!”

Well April showers bring May flowers!”

And I care about flowers? Are there natural flowers on this island anyway? It’s all concrete. Everything that grows is planted and watered and cultivated!”

What do May flowers bring?”

Tabitha and Billy together: “Pilgrims!”

You guys are dorks.”

Everything’s so dreary. The economy sucks, I somehow owe money to the government, I haven’t been able to sleep in days and I haven’t had a date in a month!”

Maybe you should try keeping more normal hours. I can’t imagine it’s easy to meet women at four am.”

Not the cheap kind anyway, if you know what I mean.” Scott winks.

Actually, that probably is the cheap ones. I’d imagine the higher priced ones have already found a client by then, not looking for the first drunk guy to stumble out of a bar.”

I’m not that desperate anyway! Screw them and their diseases! Wake up at the crack of dawn like Sara? Not for me! Maybe I need to take a trip somewhere. Get out of the city, connect with nature.”

Maybe you just need some fresh air, and some outside stimulation. But let me know if you go somewhere. I worry.”

Yes, I know you worry. I’ll keep you updated. Maybe I should make a twitter account and update it constantly so you know exactly where I am at all times!”

Or we could install a GPS tracking device on you.”

Perfect. I’ll get right on that. Maybe I’ll just get it implanted into my shoulder. Fine, fresh air. I’m going for a walk. We have an umbrella right? Oh, I see it there drying from when Ann came in. I’m borrowing it. Talk to you later.” Frank takes the umbrella and leaves.

That was quite a rant.”

Scott’s Shorts

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today’s contributors are: Ann, Tabitha, Scott.

Subject: Shorts

Ann and Tabitha are playing the card game Spit in the dining room when Scott returns home. The first thing Tabitha notices is that he’s wearing shorts.

I know it’s a nice day out, and that it’s almost spring, but it’s still chilly. Shorts? Really?”

I’m tired of the winter. I’m thinking positively.”

Thinking positively hasn’t changed the weather yet that I know of.”

Maybe Scott’s discovered the global warming solution. We just think positively about the weather and it’s fixed!”

We could all develop an icy stare.”

You’re women..you’re born with an icy stare.”

Tabitha gives Scott a look.

Exactly. I hate having to check the weather to dress appropriately. So once we have a warm day or so, I just go with shorts.”

So it’s because you’re too lazy to check the weather? Why does that not surprise me?”

It’s not lazy, I just don’t care. Besides, I’ve already packed up my winter clothes and stored them in the closet.”

I’m going to laugh at you if the weather suddenly chills.”

We’ve gotten snow in early April before. That would be funny to see.”

Scott snickers. “I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one. Besides, you were just complaining yesterday about being cold.”

He’s got a point I guess..It’s not worth being cold again to laugh at Scott.”

I think I could handle a day of frigid temperature just to see Scott shivering in the snow in his shorts.. Especially if he puts on a Hawaiian shirt to go with it.”

As long as I can sip Mai Tais in my Hawaiian shirt, the cold won’t bother me.”

mai-tai

I don’t think you’re allowed to drink Mai Tais unless you’re wearing a Hawaiian shirt actually.”

Frank’s Escape

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today’s contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Billy and Scott.

Subject: Frank’s Escape

“I’m so tired of the cold!” Tabitha shouts from the couch, curled up in a ball in a blanket and drinking hot chocolate.

“Relax Tab, it’s not that cold out.”

“I hear it’s well below freezing in Buffalo today.”

“Contrary to belief, knowing that’s it’s colder elsewhere doesn’t make it warmer here.”

“That’s very deep. Maybe you just need another blanket.”

“If you give her more blankets, she may drown!”

“At least Frank’s warm.”

“Frank’s warm? Wait..where is he?”

“Vegas.”

“VEGAS?! And no one told me? You know how I hate being left in the dark.”

“Sorry, he made us promise not to tell you right away.”

“I shouldn’t be surprised. Can I call him and berate him? He’s probably still asleep given west coast time.”

“Go for it, he’ll probably get a kick out of you being annoyed.”

“Sometimes I think he goes on these trips as much to get a rise out of you as for any other reason.”

“Ugh, so when is he coming back?”

“Dunno. Later?”

“You never ask the important questions.”

“I’m sure he’ll be back for the Super Bowl.”

“Well Tabitha, you don’t look cold anymore.”

“This really gets the blood boiling huh?”

“If Frank keeps pulling stunts like this we may be able to save on heating.”

Snow Snow Snow

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today’s contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank and Scott.

Subject: Finally, some snow

“It’s snowing!” Tabitha shouts, bursting into the apartment.

“I noticed. It’s really going to kill my tips this afternoon though.”

“This is one of those days where I’m glad I’m not working so I don’t have to fight with subway delays and slushie street corners.”

“This is the first real storm we’ve had with accumulation, I can’t believe it’s almost March.”

“Probably the last one too.” Frank says, emerging from his room to see what all the commotion is about.

“I checked the weather, It’s supposed to be a little warmer this weekend, probably going to melt most of it.”

“That means there will be all sorts of business people leaping over huge puddles of water in intersections come Monday morning. There is nothing funnier than a guy in a suit rushing to work stepping in a puddle and soaking his pant leg halfway up to his knee.”

“You take some real pleasure out of other people’s misfortune don’t you?”

“Come on! You don’t think that’s funny?”

“Come on Tab, it’s hilarious!”

Tabitha grins. “Okay, okay, it’s funny. I actually think it’s funnier trying to watch women in high heels keep their balance on snow and ice.”

“Yes!”

“The best part about it snowing in the city is no shoveling! If I were at my parents house I’d be outside pushing a shovel around and helping my dad clean off the cars.”

“It’s one of the less known benefits of not having a yard or a driveway.”

“I’m going out for a walk in the snow. Anyone want to come? The city is so pretty covered in white..”

Tabitha, Sara and Scott depart the apartment.

September

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today’s contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: The Best Month Between August and October

“Well, it’s September again. What do you guys like best about September? I’m just thrilled that I’ve stuck with the blog for six months now.”

“I like how the weather starts getting cooler, and my birthday’s in September.”

“When they change the subway advertisements for the month of September I get to find out what all the new tv shows are.”

“Apple cider. I love apples! Fall starts rolling around and it gets to be time to have a nice hot spiced apple cider.”

“September is crunch time for baseball, It’s a fun month with so much to watch.”

“I don’t know that it’s what I like best, but since I’ve always been a student I associate September with getting back to school and a normal routine. I never know what to do with myself in the summer, at least with school I have goals and deadlines to work with.”
