Dickey is awesome. He\u2019s such a fun player to root for. \u00a0\u00a0He\u2019s a \u00a0smart guy, he truly cares and appreciates the game. \u00a0He\u2019s finally finding success after a middling career. \u00a0So why aren\u2019t the Mets promoting more gear with his name on it? \u00a0Even without the puns? \u00a0Sure, you can customize stuff online, but that\u2019s not the same as being able to walk into the Mets shop and buy a variety of Dickey jerseys and gear. \u00a0The Mets also don\u2019t get the same profits due to revenue sharing if it\u2019s personalized and bought online compared to in their shops. \u00a0This niche does get filled, but it\u2019s filled via third party retailers like the7line.com<\/a>.<\/div>\n
The same could be said for Pagan. \u00a0This team needs to get better at embracing fan favorites, even if they\u2019re not the best players on the team or signed to long term contracts. \u00a0Joe Smith came up and had a good April and fans were excited. \u00a0I\u2019m sure some would\u2019ve bought a shirt. Pedro Feliciano was a reliever, but he was a very good one and he\u2019d been here long enough that maybe some fans would\u2019ve wanted to honor that.<\/div>\n

Have some fun with it. Make a promotion out of it. \u00a0Declare it Dickey day. \u00a0It would be similar to the foam fingers the Mets made that said \u201cMake Wright #1\u201d as part of an All-Star campaign. \u00a0It\u2019s quirky and a bit silly, but it\u2019s also fun and harmless attention. \u00a0Give out halos, or free Angel Pagan t-shirts, and have an \u201cAngels in the outfield\u201d promotion.<\/p>\n

Addendum: \u00a0Modells had a huge online sale a couple of weeks ago. (Mets\u00a0Police<\/a>,\u00a0via Media Goon<\/a>,\u00a0notes a sale on jerseys today)\u00a0So I purchased items you won’t find at Citi Field. \u00a0I got myself a Pagan jersey (The new cream alternate from last year), and a blue Dickey name and number shirt. \u00a0Also, an “I Like Ike” shirt, because..well you know. \u00a0 In addition to this I bought two shirts for my wife.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
