{"id":1725,"date":"2012-01-17T08:05:04","date_gmt":"2012-01-17T13:05:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ceetar.com\/optimisticmetsfan\/?p=1725"},"modified":"2012-01-16T23:31:18","modified_gmt":"2012-01-17T04:31:18","slug":"2012-met-as-2011-new-york-giant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ceetar.com\/optimisticmetsfan\/2012\/01\/17\/2012-met-as-2011-new-york-giant\/","title":{"rendered":"2012 New York Met as 2011 New York Giant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ceetar.com\/optimisticmetsfan\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/davidwrightgiants.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1726\" title=\"davidwrightgiants\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ceetar.com\/optimisticmetsfan\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/davidwrightgiants-300x297.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"297\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.ceetar.com\/optimisticmetsfan\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/davidwrightgiants-300x297.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.ceetar.com\/optimisticmetsfan\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/davidwrightgiants-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.ceetar.com\/optimisticmetsfan\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/davidwrightgiants.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Every year there are tons of examples of teams that were deemed to have no chance to be competitive that make surprising runs deep into the playoff rounds and sometimes win it all. \u00a0The New York Football Giants were given very little chance to make the playoffs, and even less once they started piling up injuries in the preseason. \u00a0Tom Coughlin&#8217;s job was in jeopardy nearly every week, and Eli Manning was laughed at for calling himself elite. \u00a0The Giants were soundly criticized for mismanaging the cap and for doing nothing in the offseason.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now there are only four teams left. \u00a0One of them is the Giants, and no one&#8217;s doubting they have a serious shot at winning their game in San Francisco and going to, and perhaps winning, the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Eli Manning won Super Bowl MVP in 2008 in Super Bowl XLII. \u00a0That vindicated him some from the critics early in his career, but his failure to win a playoff since had brought back the doubts about his talent. \u00a0Last year he had a lot of interceptions, and it really downgraded his status with a lot of people. \u00a0 In a way, it reminds me of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wrighda03.shtml?utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_campaign=Linker\" target=\"_blank\">David  Wright<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I have hope that the 2012 David Wright will be a similar story to 2011&#8217;s Eli Manning. \u00a0David&#8217;s strikeouts nicely represent Eli&#8217;s interceptions. \u00a0Although he doesn&#8217;t have a title, Wright was a legitimate MVP candidate in 2007. \u00a0In 2012 I expect to see Wright return to that form. \u00a0After Eli outplayed Aaron Rodgers on Sunday there were people that were even comparing him to his brother Peyton, who may be the best ever. \u00a0 When the 2012 MLB season ends, no longer will we have to debate if he&#8217;s the best third baseman in the NL East. \u00a0Instead critics will struggle to find a third baseman in all of baseball as good as he is.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every year there are tons of examples of teams that were deemed to have no chance to be competitive that make surprising runs deep into the playoff rounds and sometimes win it all. \u00a0The New York Football Giants were given very little chance to make the playoffs, and even less once they started piling up &hellip;
