{"id":193,"date":"2008-09-20T12:28:00","date_gmt":"2008-09-20T17:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ceetar.com\/optimisticmetsfan\/?p=193"},"modified":"2008-09-20T12:28:00","modified_gmt":"2008-09-20T17:28:00","slug":"division-title-is-brewing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ceetar.com\/optimisticmetsfan\/2008\/09\/20\/division-title-is-brewing\/","title":{"rendered":"Division Title is Brewing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Regardless of the struggles for the division, the Brewers inability to win games has put up a safety net for the Mets.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>They own a substantial lead over the wild card challengers in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Milwaukee<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, so that even were they to lose the division they\u2019d likely make the playoffs.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>However, with a Mets win last night, and a Phillies loss, the Mets are now one loss ahead for the division.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s really two, because if they were to end tied, the Mets as winners of the season series would get the division, and the Phillies the Wild Card.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p>\u00a0<\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">There are nine games left, which is also the magic number to clinch the division outright.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>Seven is the magic number to clinch the postseason altogether.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>Both are doable. <span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0<\/span>This team looks good right now; finding ways to win, capitalizing on errors, and not letting their own errors hurt them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p>\u00a0<\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">86 wins in the book, with nine to play. <span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0<\/span>Chances are they don\u2019t win every one of them, but end up with a comfortable 90-92.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>Which is where they\u2019d have been last year if their collapse had been mini instead of total.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>Time to finish it out, put the Phillies away, and win this division.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>Leave the final weekend at Shea for Shea, not trying to make the playoffs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p>\u00a0<\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Argenis Reyes really should just told he can come back next year.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>His spot in the lineup should just read \u2018out\u2019.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>I know Castillo has been slow returning from the DL, but so has Church, and we\u2019re not killing him.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>Castillo is better than Argenis, and a hurt Castillo is better than a hurt Easley, and I don\u2019t think Castillo\u2019s that hurt.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>Maybe he\u2019s lost a step here and there, but he still can run the bases, still can draw the walk, still gets on base.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>If he can get on base, and Wright, Beltran and Delgado can hit, then everythings peachy.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>Argenis Reyes however, hasn\u2019t had a hit in over a month spanning 12 games.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s had one walk in that span.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">\u00a0 <\/span>Castillo accomplished both last night.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Regardless of the struggles for the division, the Brewers inability to win games has put up a safety net for the Mets.\u00a0 They own a substantial lead over the wild card challengers in Milwaukee, so that even were they to lose the division they\u2019d likely make the playoffs.\u00a0 However, with a Mets win last night, &hellip;
