font-size:11px; text-align:right\">From <a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/ceetar\/Baseball?feat=embedwebsite\">Baseball<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>As the self-proclaimed Optimistic Mets Fan, I tend not to take this approach anyway, but I\u2019ve found that this rule is not true across the board.\u00a0 Oddly enough, there are two Mets players that never fail to bring out smiles and optimism; Johan Santana and Jose Reyes.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: auto;\" border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/bKRGNLmUTn8auENFkoI2Gg?feat=embedwebsite\"><img src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_WiYnnqmj-NY\/S3tyqCiHAhI\/AAAAAAAAIgE\/6-qg90WcpKg\/s400\/reyes.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right\">From <a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/ceetar\/Baseball?feat=embedwebsite\">Baseball<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>These two Anti-Mets, more than any other player, bring out positive vibes from Mets fans.\u00a0 Carlos Beltran, despite being very clutch, has the cloud of his strike out against the Cardinals in the 2006 playoffs.\u00a0 David Wright has been considered almost un-clutch by many fans.<\/p>\n<p>Even if it\u2019s not true, when David Wright comes up with a runner on third, many are expecting a strkeout.\u00a0 When Oliver Perez lets up a leadoff double, most fans expect him to walk two following that.\u00a0 Jason Bay hasn\u2019t even played a game yet and you just know many fans are already expecting every opposing runner to score from second on a single to left field.<\/p>\n<p>Reyes is different.\u00a0 When Reyes gets on to lead off an inning, Mets fans give him second base like it\u2019s a foregone conclusion.\u00a0 They expect him to score on any ball hit to the outfield.\u00a0 They expect opposing pitchers to get nervous and possibly balk in runs.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s similar for Johan Santana.\u00a0 If it\u2019s an Oliver Perez start, fans are betting the over\/under on how many walks he gives up.\u00a0 Or how many foul balls John Maine has.\u00a0 If it\u2019s a close game in the 6<sup>th<\/sup> or 7<sup>th<\/sup> inning and Pelfrey is pitching and lets up a leadoff single, Mets fans think \u201cHere we go again.\u201d\u00a0 If Santana lets up that same leadoff single even many of the pessimistic fans are just thinking about double plays and are recalculating how many pitches it\u2019ll now take to get the next three guys out to see if Santana can pitch another inning afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>This is the true meaning of the phrase, \u201cAs Reyes goes, so do the Mets.\u201d\u00a0 Mets fans expect winning results from Reyes and when they get it they feel the Mets will win.\u00a0 Johan is such a fierce competitor that as fans we\u2019re surprised when the opponents\u2019 bats don\u2019t literally explode under his gaze.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t matter that the Mets have never pitched a no-hitter;
