{"id":751,"date":"2010-06-29T09:01:23","date_gmt":"2010-06-29T13:01:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ceetar.com\/optimisticmetsfan\/?p=751"},"modified":"2010-06-28T23:44:50","modified_gmt":"2010-06-29T03:44:50","slug":"these-mets-are-scary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ceetar.com\/optimisticmetsfan\/2010\/06\/29\/these-mets-are-scary\/","title":{"rendered":"These Mets Are Scary"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure style=\"width: 438px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"win\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_WiYnnqmj-NY\/TBGlABYBpSI\/AAAAAAAAI8s\/U8eIOFdLW0s\/s800\/IMG_1148.JPG\" alt=\"Mets Win\" width=\"438\" height=\"328\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mets Win<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This Mets team can be pretty scary.\u00a0 I certainly thought they had a chance to be very competitive coming into this year, but it would\u2019ve been hard for anyone to predict it would evolve the way it did.\u00a0\u00a0 The team may be the team you\u2019d least want to face in the National League, because you never know what you\u2019re going to get from them, they can hit you from all angles.\u00a0 People talk about Philadelphia\u2019s offense being scary, but when you get down to it the Phillies are a team built on offense; if you pitch well against them you can win any of the games.<\/p>\n<p>The Mets can baffle a team\u2019s offense on any day.\u00a0 It could happen via R.A. Dickey\u2019s knuckleball dancing towards the plate, or it could happen with Pelfrey\u2019s dominate sinking fastball.\u00a0 The next day Jon Niese could unleash his curveball, or Johan Santana could be on the mound with his two Cy Young awards. \u00a0\u00a0The bullpen has also been very good, regularly racking up scoreless innings.\u00a0 They\u2019ve got some hard throwers, some specialists, and Frankie Rodriguez.<\/p>\n<p>Offensively the Mets have the talent to beat a team in a couple of ways.\u00a0 They\u2019re capable of hitting big home runs one day, and the next day battering pitching to a tune of 14 runs without a long ball.\u00a0 They\u2019re aggressive, steal bases, take extra bases on base hits, capitalize on errors and play hard.\u00a0 They\u2019re capable of coming back from deficits, don\u2019t quit until the game is over, and even if a starting pitcher is shutting them down, they\u2019re capable of waking up against a reliever and winning a game.<\/p>\n<p>They seem to have the right mixture of confidence and cockiness, and all reports suggest they have great clubhouse chemistry.
