The Bisons Beer Dinner, Mets Beer Competitions?

Prost! The Buffalo Bisons are having a Beer vs. Wine II dinner Thursday at Coca-Cola Field.  It’s a rematch of a dinner they had last November.

This is a pretty cool idea and a great use of the park during the offseason.  $60 gets you a 5-course meal and a wine and beer pairing with each.  Your vote decides which paired better, and the votes are tallied at the end for a winner.  Of course beer won the first dinner.

I’m not going to whine (haha, get it?) about the Mets not doing something similar at Citi Field, although I do think it’d be a fun idea.  I’m not that unreasonable that I demand all my interests to align in one centrally located area within Flushing.

Except this isn’t really that much different than an event the Mets already have.  Oktoberfest!  The Mets already have a plan in place for food and drink events, so why not host a couple more?  I’d make a point to go to a “Summer Beerfest” event before a Mets game.   The competition angle is one way to go too.  When the Padres visit in town, pour five Stone Brewery beers on one side, and five Brooklyn Brewery beers on the other. Ask fans to rank their top three beers and then announce the winner during the 5th inning, which would double as a great way to advertise the next competitive beer tasting event.

Mets Should Get a Bison

Fernando Martinez is injured. He was over-matched before he was injured, and I’m not sure sitting for a couple of games is the best way for him to develop into a Major League hitter. So why is he still on the roster? These guys aren’t Albert Pujols in waiting, but they’re hitting pretty well down in Buffalo. What could it hurt to see one of them?

Jesus Feliciano is a leftfielder hitting .302 in 74 games. He’s got 17 doubles, 34 RBIs. No errors.
He was also 6/16 with 2 walks in the World Baseball Classic for Puerto Rico.

Cory Sullivan is hitting .301 in 77 games in center. 35 runs, 15 doubles, 2 home runs, 24 RBIs. No errors.

Neither are sluggers, but they seem to be solid baseball players that likely won’t be worse than Fernando Martinez who can recover and get everyday playing time back in Buffalo for now.

Postseason baseball

Last year I got right into the postseason, and the Phillies being pummeled didn’t hurt. It was like I was so expectant of the season not being over. This year I was just so disappointed and disillusioned that I haven’t been into it. Sox looked good last night, but I’m still pulling for the Rays I think. (I like to compare them to the ’69 Mets, but last night certainly reminded me of the ’08 Mets. Both teams blew it after Kazmir left! haha..that was..bad)

Islanders don’t look great, but I’m thinking there might be some fun there. I caught opening night at the Prudential Center against the Devils, they lost, but I had fun.

I’m going to be in Buffalo this weekend, I wonder if I should pick up a Bisons shirt or something.
